The Kalacinski family first appears in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, with the birth of Anthony Dominick Kalacinski on Aug 4, 1919. Anthony's father is believed to have died a few months prior to his birth from pneumonia after being wounded in WWI. Anthony and His sister, Marie Bernice, are listed in the 1920 census living with their mother, Cecelia Szerlik and Cecilia's parents and are listed with the surname of Szerlik. In 1930, after Cecilia's marriage to Adolph Popielarski, they are listed with the Popielarski surname. It is uncertain how the Kalacinski surname was spelled prior to Anthony's birth.Also, while there are Kalacinski's in the Scranton, Pennsylvania area, as well as Illinois, they are not believed to be blood relatives.
